As Virtuoso advisors, we are used to seeing amazing properties in fabulous locations. We have become kind of blase and expect the best. When I was at Kangaroo Island a few weeks ago and I walked into Southern Ocean Lodge, my jaw dropped!!!! Oh, My God!!! What a great view and what an impressive combination of a great room, lobby, bar and dining area. Set on a cliff with floor to ceiling windows showcasing a full frontal panorama with stunning views and the sound of the pounding surf.
Committed to sustainability, the self-sufficient eco building and modern architectural design bring the indoor and outdoor together with a sweeping view of the pristine wilderness and inspiring landscape. The Lodge offers creative cuisine featuring local artisan food farmed on the island and wines produced locally. The spacious great room is the heart of the lodge where everyone gathers for breakfast, lunch and just to hang out and take in the isolated and breathtaking landscape.
The open bar policy in the great room is a welcome feature. The open bar is stocked with South Australian wines, South Australian craft beers, and premium spirits. Everyone gathers around the long table by the bar at night and it is a great way to meet fellow guests and chat before dinner.
Many adventures and experiences are available on Kangaroo Island. From walking among the sea lions at Seal Bay to discovering the stunning nature work of Remarkable Rocks, experiences are available guided hikes, kayaking, biking and private charter to discover the island from above.
Let’s not also forget about the wine!!! Although Kangaroo island is relatively a new wine region, however, its wines are known for their strong fruit flavor and intense color and visitor can choose from 18 exciting labels five of which are now being exported to the UK, USA, and Europe.
